Italian monster drag racing American noise
Let’s start with Yianni’s Lamborghini from Yiannize’s YouTube channel. Under the hood is the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, which comes directly from the RS Q8, but produces more power; 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. It drives all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The curb weight is different from other Lamborghini cars because of its stature, so you’re looking at 4,844 pounds.
The Model 3’s performance, on the other hand, doesn’t match the Urus’s powers from its twin electric motors. Total power output is rated at 490 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torsion. Since it’s a twin electric motor, all-wheel drive is standard. For a sedan, the Model 3 weighs a bit more due to the 75 kWh battery pack under the floor. But the curb weight is lower than the Urus, at 4,079 pounds.
The drag race begins…
From the get-go, the Model 3, with its wattage, fired amazingly well, while the Urus struggled for traction. But the gap quickly shortens between the two when the Urus crosses the Model 3 to hit the quarter-mile mark first. Surprisingly, both cars posted a quarter-mile time of 11.8 seconds, but the replay shows that the Urus is slightly ahead of the Model 3 to complete the race.
Next, we have the rolling races, with the Model 3 and Urus starting at 50 mph. The Urus is tuned to manual gear changes in Corsa mode, and the Model 3 doesn’t have a gearbox, which gives it the advantage of picking up speed faster. The race starts and the Model 3 takes the lead again, but the Urus overtakes it within a few seconds. The Urus is such a beast, and being an SUV doesn’t really make it slow. The next spin race starts with both cars at 30 mph and the Urus is set to automatically shift gears. As expected, the Model 3 rides forward and maintains a good distance from the Urus for a second or so, until the Urus starts to gain speed and overtakes the Model 3. This proves that take-off from electric cars is instant when compared to its ICE counterparts.
The follow-up is a brake test from 100mph, and both cars flatten the brake pedal as soon as they hit the line. The Model 3 won the test, but the Urus wasn’t far ahead of it. The Model 3 stops right before the Urus, but the difference is about a few inches. So the Urus is the clear winner in the drag race, and in the roll races, but the Model 3 Performance wins the brake test.
