President Joe Biden will have to do more to establish a link with the leading manufacturer of electric cars on US soil and the world’s leading car company by market value.
Elon Musk isn’t about to get over the Biden administration’s disdain for him.
Tesla (TSLA) – Get a Tesla Inc . report Co-founder and CEO took his time to respond to Biden’s outstretched hand a few days ago. If his answer is indirect, he is unlikely to go to the White House any time soon, even if he is invited.
Posting on his Twitter account on February 16 in response to a statement from Biden dating back to February 11, the Democratic president declared that day: “The Model 3 is literally the most American made – of course – America.” His administration’s commitment to converting the entire federal automobile fleet to electric vehicles.
“We are preparing to make all 600,000 of the federal government’s vehicles electric, bring more manufacturing jobs back into our country, and build supply chains here at home. We are making ‘Buy America’ a reality — not just a promise,” Biden wrote.
As usual, Musk took his time to respond to the Democratic president, who took several months to finally utter Tesla’s word in public. Based on a USA Today article, the Model 3 reached number one in the 2021 Cars.com American-made Index (AMI), making it the first all-electric car to top the list in its 16-year history, and is the richest. In light of this scathing response, it’s safe to say that Musk is not ready to make peace with Biden.
The Democratic chief was able for the first time to utter Tesla in public on February 8 after closely ignoring the Austin-based company and its eccentric CEO for several months.
“Since 2021, companies have announced investments totaling more than $200 billion in local manufacturing here in America,” Biden said in a speech on US auto manufacturing.
“From famous companies like General Motors and Ford building new production of electric vehicles to Tesla – the largest maker of electric cars in our country – to innovative young companies like Rivian that makes electric trucks or Protera that makes electric buses,” Biden added.
