Everything you need to know about the 1,050hp Lucid Air Grand Touring performance

Lucid Motors challenges electric car directionalists with its cool aerodynamic cars. While Tesla was focused on clear performance and being “unconventional”, Lucid He takes the more traditional route by making a car with an emphasis on engineering rather than technology. And that seems to have paid off well. People can communicate more with Lucid Air than with a Tesla Model S.

Lucid Air Dream Edition performance also shamed the Tesla Model S Plaid with more power and greater driving range. But alas, this Plaid-killer was limited, and not many were able to get their hands on it. So, to fill that void, Lucid introduced a slightly less powerful brawler with Air Grand Touring Performance.

This 1,050 horsepower luxury sedan is an unlimited ticket to smoke Tesla’s most powerful car. Aside from the software modification of the powertrain that is shared with the Dream Edition, there aren’t much differences here. With insane performance, great charging technology, and a luxurious interior, this Lucid might end up being people’s favorite in luxury electric cars. This Lucid also puts the likes of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Mercedes-Benz EQS to shame.

The 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance is a slightly less powerful but equally desirable Tesla-killing alternative to the all-sold-out Dream Edition.

For those who couldn’t get the Limited Dreams Edition

The Tesla Model S kryptonite is a great machine and the 111-horsepower Lucid Air Dream Edition was the perfect “silence”, even for a mental Model S Plaid. That was because the Dream Edition models only went to 520 units and sold out. To fill that void, we now have the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance, which is still a pretty powerful “silence”!

Just shy of 60 horses, this beast is still across the 1,000 horsepower segment, which is insane. And unlike the Limited Dream Edition, there’s no Grand Touring Performance cap. So, this is the Lucid Air that you don’t have to worry about. It slips between the 819-hp Lucid Air Grand Touring engine and the all-sell Lucid Air Dream Edition’s 111-horsepower engine.

Lucid Air’s most powerful purchasable air runs from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds

It shares the same dual-motor design that suits its stablemates and packs the same 118 kWh battery pack as the Dream Edition. That translates to 1,050 usable horsepower and 921 pound-feet of torque sent to all four wheels that help this electric supercar do 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. That’s just 0.4 seconds faster than the base trim that goes from 0-60 mph in a steady 3 seconds. It will have a top speed of 168 mph.

It’s also slightly slower than the Air Dream Edition, which the company claims can hit 60 mph in 2.42 seconds. Considering the acceleration, it is not much better or worse than its stable counterparts. But the most powerful Lucid Air Grand Touring performance that can be purchased appears to be a direct attack on the 1,020-horsepower Tesla Model S Plaid that accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.1 seconds.

EPA ratings are still better than competitors including Tesla

While the acceleration numbers may still favor the Telsa, the Lucid’s winning streak with Air Grand Touring performance is its driving range. The newest Lucid Air has an EPA-rated range of 446 miles. That’s again, marginally less than the 451 miles on the Limited Dream Edition Performance, and even less than the standard Grand Touring’s 469 miles of trim.

But all great, immersing it in a 350kW fast charger will get all the Lucid’s 900V voltage and add an impressive 300 miles in just 21 minutes. As for its arch-rival, even the more efficient Tesla Model S, which has 405 miles, is unable to match the Lucid Air’s range numbers. The Model S Plaid is slayed in this sector, with a range of just 348 miles!
