A new special driver-focused version of the Polestar 2 has been revealed with 469 hp

If the regular Polestar 2 isn’t fast enough for you, the Swedish electric car maker has revealed a more driver-focused version of its answer to the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. It’s called the BST 270 Edition — and it’s basically the production version of a demo concept we first saw at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

According to the brand’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, the response to the modified Polestar 2 spurred the creation of the special edition. It has a twin-engine 469 hp and 650 Nm of torque like the best Polestar 2 when paired with the Performance Package – which should be enough for nearly four seconds from 0-62 mph.

However, performance figures for the BST 270 edition have yet to be confirmed, and there is no range from the 78 kWh battery.

What Polestar did was modify the saloon’s electric suspension, lowering the ride height by 25mm, and installing 20% stiffer springs, a front strut and two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers developed specifically for the driver-focused electric vehicle. It also gets 21-inch matte black alloy wheels taken from the Polestar 1 Hybrid Performance Coupe, and bespoke Pirelli tires.

The Polestar 2 Special Edition also gets some styling tweaks, including the front bumper, body-color side skirts and gloss black side mirrors. It also has gold-tone brake callipers, seat belts, valve caps and dampers. Customers can choose between Snow White and Thunder Gray paint, with the option of a matte black body bar or a satin satin gray full-body Battleship case.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but potential buyers can register their interest on the Polestar website. Production of 270 models will begin soon, before the first deliveries begin at the end of the year.

Polestar High Performance Pilot 2

A high-performance demo of the Polestar 2 was first revealed in 2021 to drive the famous hilltop at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Power has been boosted from 402 horsepower to 469 horsepower, along with wheel, brake and suspension tweaks for a more aggressive look and improved control.

Key aspects of the upgrades to the vehicle include a 10mm wider track each side and a 30mm lower ride height. The six-piston Akebono brakes used on the Polestar 1 coupe were installed, and this necessitated upgrading the alloy wheel to 21 inches. The wheel arches have also been enlarged, in turn.

Tougher springs (80% larger in the front and 40% larger in the rear), three-way performance dampers from Swedish company Öhlins and carbon-fiber strut bars front and rear, along with the aforementioned software-based increased power, are upgrades.

Exterior finishes include updated front and rear bumpers, racing stripe, color-coded front grille and gloss black mirrors. The fenders and side skirts feature additional color-coded design touches, while the wheels feature glossy and matte black surfaces.

The development of the prototype was prompted by the president of Polestar, who said: “It has challenged the design and engineering teams to play with it. [the] Polestar 2 and create something that makes a strong statement… We want to flex our muscles and explore opportunities.”
